Home - Underneath Everlasting ArmsWhere is my home ?

I love this picture. It shows the story of a dandelion. The big mother has many small flowers. When these children are mature enough, the wind will blow them, bringing it far away to another places. Then, it will grow into a new mother dandelion.

I know this story from Doraemon, one of japanese manga. The comic tells about one of small dandelion that doesn't want to leave her mother. She is afraid of outer world, scared of the world she never see before.

I think we are somehow similar to this dandelion. God brings us to another places, maybe far away from our home. He prepares a new soil for us to grow. But, like the small timid dandelion, we are scared, trembled where the wind will blow us. How if the wind blows me to the desert, mother ? How if the places is not comfortable, God ?

But hey, the story does not end here. We are different from the dandelion. We are never left alone. He is Immanuel, God is with us. When we are thousands miles apart from our family, when we can't bear the homesick feeling, when we feel alone and lonely, when we are weary of searching our home. Take a closer look, hear the heartwarming sound, be still and talk to Him. You'll know He is there, walking hand-in-hand with you.

PS: This post reminds me about my first days, entering university world, facing unbearable homesick many times, lots of rainy days. But here I am, standing still to celebrate the wonder of His love. This grateful heart can't find perfect words to describe how sweet the journey to grow in Him. Where is my home ? where He is, in heaven and wherever He directs me.

Home - Underneath Everlasting Arms The wonder of communication

Do you know how a honeybee communicates to others when she finds a source of food ?
She dances !! And it's more amazing, they have different patterns of dancing.

The first pattern is when the food is nearby the hive, it will show the round dance, dance that contains no directional formation. When the food is more distant, she will practice the waggle dance, wags her abdoment to create a figure-eight design.

And do you know how the way she communicates exactly to others ? The honeybee can tell the direction, distance, and quality of food.( taken from : A Concise Introduction to Linguistics ). When she wags the abdoment, whether it is slow or fast, how many times the wagging, all of these gives sufficient information about how far and which is the direction of the food from the sun. Honeybees also have a special hormon, pheromone ( do I write it correctly ?). So when the food is hidden by bushes or a tree, other bees can still find the food through the hormon left by the first bee. It is called redundancy in linguistic.

Isn't it amazing ? The way these honeybees communicate. Praise the Lord. I think you'll be more amazed when we compare to how humanbeings communicate to each other. It's really wonderful to look deeper and ponder upon it. In fact, we seldom think of it and take it for granted. I also never think of it before and was really blessed to know it from my linguistic lecture. I'll share to you next time.

Light treatment

EvEryThing UnDeR ThE SuN - Underneath Everlasting Arms
What's the first thing you remember when someone mentioned about light ? If you ask me right now, my answer is vitamine D hahaha. Recalling my elementary school's lesson that one of the source for vitamine D is the sunshine.

I used to associate light with a guidance. If you wonder what the word "eliore" means, hml, it is taken from Hebrew which means 'my God is my light'. A name given for my baptism by my uncle.Light is used to guide our way, so that we can see our next step clearly.

The interesting thing I want to share is about a light treatment. There is a psychiatric illness, called Seasonal Affective Disorder ( SAD ). SAD is prevalent in winter. There's serotonin seasonal rhythm which is low in winter. And you can definitely guess how it is treated, right ? Yup, light treatment. By giving the patients bright light, for example from lamp, SAD can be treated succesfully.

Just a bit excited to know another fact about light. How our brain can't function well without the light. And how light can be used as treatment to cure it. So, my point is don't forget to put your head under the sun every day =p

EvEryThing UnDeR ThE SuN - Underneath Everlasting Arms Running under the rain

It was raining cats and dogs yesterday. Don't know why, it's raining often recently. I love rain. Watching rain through a window. Standing under the shelter and stretching my palm to feel the drops of water. It's my long-time-ago wish to run under the rain. A bit jealous when I watched all the boys playing soccer under the rain =p. ( I'm not jealous with the soccer, of course ). Maybe that's why I am lazy to carry an umbrella with me. I get a reason to be under the rain and enjoy it haha.

There are many thoughts about the rain. I read an article of thanksgiving meditation by John Piper. He said rain is the great work of God. Take time to read it yourself http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/TasteAndSee/ByDate/1998/1117_The_Great_Work_of_God_Rain/
Hm, when I read it I wonder why I never think of it before. As little children we were curious and keep asking where the rain comes from or how it could happen. But, as we grow older , we may know the theories from school, we may find terms and names for everything, we may see everything natural, and we may end up taking it for granted. Let day by day God help me and you to be more grateful for everything, a small thing, ordinary people, or maybe a natural event.(image is taken from :homepage2.nifty.com/.../aeta-smiling-face.JPG )

EvEryThing UnDeR ThE SuN - Underneath Everlasting ArmsThe colorful world

I think one of the common questions people usually ask to me is 'which color do you like ?'. I think this question is never out of date, from elementary school when there was a 'tradition' of exhanging biodata books among friends until our usual conversation in university. Our favourite colors seem to be associated with part of our personality/identity.

I remembered when I was in kindergarten, my teacher taught us about basic colors dan how to combine two colors to produce another new color. The teacher called my name to go in front and practice it. There were yellow, red, and green liquids ( I forget the details already ) and she asked me how to produce purple or something. I was quite blur and mixed two colours which turned into another unexpected color. Haha that's one of my unforgettable childhood memories.

Well, I think our world is very colourful. One of its beauty comes from the richness in colors. Whether it is white, or pink, or black, or blue, that's all beautiful. Take a look at this http://landofsmile.ru/fotoproj/colors/2.html and explore the beauty of different colors. When our eyes find the beauty of this world, may our heart filled with gratitude to the Creator. May you have a colorful day ! ^^

EvEryThing UnDeR ThE SuN - Underneath Everlasting ArmsSunrise : Let there be hope

If you ask me what’s the difficult part in doing IA, my answer is to wake up in the morning =p. But, in fact, it turns into something I really appreciate. To see the dark sky slowly changes into a bright morning. A sign that new day has come, another day for IA life.

Currently, as we know, our beloved country is facing consecutive problems. Tsunami two years ago, earthquake last year, crash few months ago, then come the flood, another crash, another earthquake. Haven’t mentioned ‘small’ or daily problems. Currently, some people seem losing hope. The burden is too heavy, the night is too dark, the storm is too terrifying, the future seems too blur. Problems in life come and go.

And I find the answer in the silence of sunrise. The darkest gloom finally gives place to bright morning. No matter how heavy the storm of night is, the sun will still rise. Constantly, certainly, faithfully. There’s always a hope in God to rely on. His promise is as steady as the morning light that never late to shine. His perfect love is as certain as the sunrise, it can not be decreased or increased by our problems or condition. As certain as the sunrise, we may take courage to continue in our prayer, for Indonesia and for ourselves.

Let there be hope. Let there be faith. Let there be light.

EvEryThing UnDeR ThE SuN - Underneath Everlasting ArmsGarden of heart : to be content

Few weeks ago I feel disturbed by people’s attitude around me. They keep telling negative things. Complaining about things to do, commenting on what people do, grumbling about how the things go bad. It reminds me of another person that can tell me hundreds of people’s weaknesses while talking for an hour* hyperbolic mode. Well, just wonder why I never heard this person saying any compliment to others.

But at the time I think of it, I feel I suddenly get a bump. Hey, what are you doing now? Don’t I grumble ? Don’t I complain ? Don’t I comment on them ? I don’t realize that I do the things they do, although I think I don’t want to do that. It’s ironic, the time we feel that we are better than others, it’s the time that we actually do the same or even worse than theirs.

I love to read CH Spurgeon’s devotional about contentment. It is said that "...We need not teach men to complain; they complain fast enough without any education. Covetuous, discontent, and murmuring are as natural to man as thorns are to soil. But the precious things of the earth must be cultivated. If we want flowers, there must be the garden and all the gardener's care. Now, contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated; it will not grow in us by nature...."

Humm.. it's so true. I find myself discontent easily and 'naturally'. Even when I think I have been grateful enough. Contentment is a precious habit that will only grow if it is cultivated with intensive care. May God give us humble heart to learn today, to put our best effort to cultivate the contentment. Let the garden of our heart be filled with the blossoms of contentment.

PS : sorry, didn’t update this blog for long time. Still struggling manage and redeem my time ^o^
